Look what I have right now here with me?

A 3x4 inch 22 page maroon colored book with my big face and personal information in the second page with some glossy Philippine stamps in the background, aside from that I also have my smaller portrait behind those info. Characters were pin holed on each pages with and the pages look similar to that of our Philippine bills.
And finally I received my passport. Finally! I had wanted to have one since I graduated college. Because I was one of the recipients of the DOST scholarship when I was in my tertiary years, I have to spend and work for four years here in the Philippines, actually it should be equivalent to the number of years that the scholars were receiving tuition subsidy from the government. I studied Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and that was four years of studies so until last year when the DOST office lift the obligations of scholars and are now free to travel abroad whatever the reasons behind it.

How To Acquire a Passport in Cebu

Applying for a passport is indeed a hassle, well I guess this applies to all government agencies or offices, may it be in acquiring a driver's license or securing an SSS ID.

Here are the five steps on how I applied for my Passport:
1. Secure a priority number.
Previously, you found me ranting about my epic fail passport application where I wasn't able to even get a priority number but gladly, last Monday I finally secured a priority number at eight in the morning. I was number 316 while James was number 318. In my mind I couldn't help but laugh, imagine my previous visit here, I woke up early sacrificed a couple of hours sleep just to have this f***ng number. We left our identification cards with our application forms.

The front guard advised James and I to come back at two in the afternoon, great because I still have enough time to sleep. James had to go to work earlier that day so he can render exact hours of duty.

My Epic Fail Passport Application

As one of the recipients of RA 7687 S&T Scholarships 4-year program, it is my obligation to give back to our country what it has given me as well so it never came to me to apply for a passport because I won't be able to travel out of the country to work or even to have a vacation unless I can secure a clearance letter from the DOST office. Though my brother had been encouraging me so I could work in Dubai with him, I didn't have any other choice than to wait for four years. However, I had read a lot of blog posts about a co-DOST scholars who haven't finish their obligation yet were able to travel abroad and work there and recently, I learned about the memo concerning DOST scholars' right to travel dated June 14, 2012 wherein all DOST scholars don't have any more derogatory records in the Bureau of Immigration database. And so to verify this, I sent an email to BI regarding the said memo and their reply... Tada!!!

"Dear Maam:
We referred your concern to the Verification Certification Section and they would like to inform you that the name Jean B. Beltran has no Derogatory record in the database as of October 18, 2012."

And so this post had come up, my first attempt to apply for a passport was last Monday, November 5, 2012. Confidently, James and I arrived at Pacific Mall Mandaue City at seven in the morning. I never expected the scene I saw - four long lines of tired yet hopeful Filipino citizens who just like me want to get their own passport and travel abroad. And so I got discouraged to continue and instead went back home which I truly regret, it was a mistake because I never went down and ask for certain questions regarding the application.
