Is That The New Friendster?
An earthquake had shaken up those early and the sleepless Visayan birds today around 4:47am. I am with the latter but I never felt any shake at all. It was amazing how I was deeply focused on the series I was watching, the City Hunter. I can't believe I was that insensitive. I just knew it when I read the fb status of my colleagues. Anyways, thank goodness it was just a minor shake, hope everyone else in the Visayas is doing good. Aw, this post is not for the earthquake but for friendster so here we go!
Welcome back fs! Friendster had come back with a new tag line: living the game. I never expected that they would really make it into a gaming kind of social networking site,. I am not into online gaming anymore, in fact the last online game I was addicted to was the Crazy Cart and the Farm Town via facebook. That was two years ago and I stopped playing because it just consumes my time, making me unproductive. I can't imagine how those games keep my eyes open for like six to eight hours so I decided to stop that craziness and never play any online game anymore, not even a single one.

Friendster Export Done!
As I was checking on my yahoo emails today, I noticed that my Friendster mail had increased by one. So then my mind was thinking this must be the notification about the export thing I processed with the site. It was indeed the export notification, so without further ado, I clicked on the download button. I was surprised because I was navigated back to the same window screen where I need to download my profile again. I thought it was some cache problem so I went back to my mail.
While checking and reading through it, I noticed that the date it was received was last April 28. I didn't actually notice it until now.
Well then, I downloaded the profile for the second time. This time, there were no server outage anymore, it was just like a blink of an eye and I received another email notifying me that my profile is ready for download now!
I immediately clicked on the download Profile button and I was navigated to this new page:

Friendster is Shutting Down?
"You can't compete with Facebook. They did a good job. It's a Facebook world," said Nikolai Galicia, Friendster and MOL country manager for the Philippines.- abs-cbn news
After nine long years of service, Friendster is now proclaiming their closure! Yes you read it right, they are shutting down for good. Oppss..sorry but not for good because they are coming back. And as what they claim, they will be coming back big time! Well, we will see then. For the mean time, they are encouraging the users to export their files for the new friendster world coming soon.
To recall, friendster was the first social network I had engaged with. Growing up in an urban area where internet was not an easy reach, it was during college that I started to create and manage my friendster account. That was 2005, remembering those adding of friends, uploading only a few pictures before was already a happiness and sending messages was pure fun. I could also remember telling my college-mates :"Friends naba ta?", of course we are but we were referring to friendster friends.
It was all friendster before until 2008 when facebook farmtown ruled the whole world wide web users. So friendster is now coping up and we will see what they will be storing for us in just a few weeks now.
I don't have any plans of deleting my friendster account though so I am exporting my account today. Alright, so I logged in to my account now...
